Joint Institute for Computational Sciences (JICS)

Computational Science Initiative (CSI)

What is the CSI?

A joint UT and ORNL venture, the Computational Science Initiative (CSI) represents a new level of opportunity for collaborative research in computationally-intensive fields of science and engineering. The initiative offers financial support and access to the leadership-class computing facilities housed in the ORNL Center for Computational Sciences.

CSI helps to insure productive use of computing resources and increases effective collaboration. Its funding supports post-doctoral associates, graduate students, and visitors as well as release time and sabbatical support for faculty and staff.

CSI Goals

  • RAISE the UT and ORNL computational science research profile
  • EASE access to ORNL leadership-class computing facilities for University of Tennessee research scientists

What resources are available?

The ORNL National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) houses state-of-the-art resources for high-performance computational science and computing science research projects. CSI users can apply for access to these machine through this program.

Who can participate?

Researchers at UT and ORNL are eligible to apply for support.

Getting started

Researchers can apply for CSI support through a simple two-step process:

  1. Send a brief proposal that describes the research and addresses the goals of the CSI to Jesse Poore (poore@cs.utk.edu) and
    Thomas Zacharia (zac@ornl.gov).
  2. Upon receipt of approval, apply for a CCS account. You will find available information on the CCS General Account Information page.
