Dr. Stephen L. Wood is a computational engineer at the University of Tennessee Joint Institute for Computational Sciences (JICS) located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He received his Ph.D. in Energy Science and Engineering with a focus in Computational Energy Systems and an Interdisciplinary Graduate Minor in Computational Science from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville in August of 2016. His graduate research work, carried out at the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education, focused on the development of lattice Boltzmann methods for high fidelity wind energy analysis. He was supported by the TN-SCORE Energy Scholar program during his doctoral studies. Dr. Wood’s current work includes optimizing computational fluid dynamics methods for emerging computing technologies, such as accelerators, co-processors, and many-core processors.
